Starting the mental health conversation with your parents can be uncomfortable and scary, but it is an incredibly important step in someone’s journey to get help. One of the first steps is to ask your parent(s) for a moment of their time. After that, there are a few ways to go about it, like just talking about your feelings or handing them a letter with what you want to say written down.
Remember, this is your time to be honest, so it is perfectly okay for you to ask them to just listen. Also, while talking with your parents, don’t worry about what they will think or say. Just remember that what you feel is valid and that your needs deserve to be heard. At the end of the day, no matter how difficult that first step is, you will have gotten over the worst part and perhaps strengthen your relationship with your parents.
